Cultural Heritage as Habitat
Cultural heritage and biodiversity are often managed separately. This project aims to bring the two closer together by identifying practical ways to create synergies and showing how cultural heritage environments can support thriving habitats for people, animals, and plants.
The project has two distinct perspectives:
1. To give UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Nordic countries a stronger role and clearer tools to address biodiversity issues in a tangible way.
2. To provide guidance for strategic perspectives on advancing the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework and the World Heritage Convention at a state level as well as through Nordic cooperation.
The Nordic World Heritage as a model region for sustainable tourism
The goal of the project was to motivate and inspire World Heritage site managers, national authorities and national tourism organizations in the Nordic countries to work more strategically with sustainable tourism, and to examine how the UNESCO Sustainable Tourism toolkit is perceived and used by the Nordic World Heritage site managers.
Visitor survey of Finnish World Heritage sites 2017-2018
The Association of World Heritage sites in Finland coordinates a research project investigating World Heritage site visitor profile, customer satisfaction as well as local economy impact during 2017 and 2018. The survey is first of its kind providing consistent and comparable data of World Heritage sites in Finland for protection and development purposes.
